Experts and Scholars Discussed Frontiers of International Scientific and Technical Information at Wuhan University

On April 26th, the 2025 International Forum on Frontiers and Future of Scientific and Technical Information and 2025 Working Meeting of the International Cooperation Working Committee of the China Society for Scientific and Technical Information (CSSTI) were convened at Wuhan University. Experts and scholars from 18 universities and research institutions, including Peking University, the University of Hong Kong, the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China, and the National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences, gathered to explore the frontiers of international scientific and technical information and map out new paths for international cooperation in scientific and technical information.

VIPs attended the meeting were as the followings:

Wenqian Qu, CPC Deputy Secretary of Wuhan University;

Yuntao Pan, Deputy Director and Secretary-General of CSSTI, and Head Researcher of the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China;

Feicheng Ma, Supervisor of CSSTI and University Distinguished Professor in Humanities and Social Sciences at Wuhan University;

Xiwen Liu, Director of the National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences;

and Chuanfu Chen, Dean of the Institute for Library and Information International Cooperation at Wuhan University and University Distinguished Professor in Humanities and Social Sciences at Wuhan University.

Jun Tao, CPC Secretary of the School of Information Management, Wuhan University, presided over the opening ceremony.

Wenqian Qu stated that Wuhan University will rely on its advantageous disciplines to deepen international cooperation, cultivate digital-intelligent talents, and promote frontier research. Facing challenges in data sharing and international cooperation, the Wuhan University is committed to building an exchange platform for global scientific and technical information development.

Yuntao Pan pointed out that CSSTI will continue to open up and strive to become a global influential academic think tank and a platform for gathering scientific and technological talents.

Feicheng Ma analyzed the challenges and difficulties in current international cooperation, proposing the construction of international journals and joint laboratories, focusing on digital divide governance, and cultivating young talents with international perspectives.

Xiaoguang Wang, Dean of the School of Information Management at Wuhan University, mentioned that the school has established cooperative relationships with top universities and international organizations in more than ten countries and hosted many top academic conferences. He will fully support the work of the International Cooperation Working Committee of CSSTI to jointly write a new chapter in the cause of scientific and technical information.

During the meeting, an appointment ceremony was held. Wenqian Qu, Yuntao Pan, Feicheng Ma, Xiaoguang Wang, etc., presented letters of appointment to representatives of the committee's advisors, directors, deputy directors, secretary-general, and committee members.

In the keynote report session, Chuanfu Chen reviewed the development of information science and its contributions to scientific and technological work, emphasizing that scientific and technical information work should not only maintain the traditional functions of being the "eyes and ears, vanguards, and advisors" but also innovate cooperation models.

Xiwen Liu introduced the strategic significance, methods, and experiences of international cooperation at the National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and put forward suggestions on the global landscape, enabling mechanisms, contribution awareness, and sharing concepts.

Gang Li, Dean of the Wuhan Data Intelligence Research Institute at Wuhan University, pointed out that in the context of large models, it is necessary to strengthen the application of large models with knowledge library, construct industrial chain maps with enterprises, products, and technologies as the core, and improve the efficiency of information analysis through data governance and intelligent systems.

In the closed meeting of the committee, experts and scholars revised the Working Regulations of the International Cooperation Working Committee of the China Society for Scientific and Technical Information (CSSTI), and conducted in-depth discussions on issues such as landmark achievement construction, collaborative exchanges among entities, and international talent training, putting forward many forward-looking and operable suggestions.
